Monkey Hill Hike, Kam Shan Country Park
Some weeks ago we decided to climb the Lantau peak. Unfortunately, the weather was not sunny and we decided to go on a smaller hike to see monkeys at Monkey Hill, Kam Shan Country Park. It combines monkeys (which I must admit, are always fun to watch) and a small hike to have a healthy Sunday.
Getting there
To get there, I usually fall the instructions of this blogger: This Girl Abroad. The path to this countryside involves to take the MTR to Lai Chi Kok and then the bus 72 from the Sha Wan Bus Terminus just next to the MTR station. Get off at Shek Lei Pui Reservoir and after seeing the first monkeys, take the path on your left and start the hike that surrounds the reservoir.
The cute monkeys (or not)
Along the way, you will meet many monkeys. As you may have already heard, don’t mess with them! They may be cute but their first goal is to get food and they can get violet to get any. So don’t feed them, don’t upset them and be careful. Especially with the babies: parents are always not too far…
The hike in Kam Shan Country Park
The hike is pretty quick: 2 hours and not difficult at all. You are walking along the reservoir on a concrete road. At one point, you will arrive on land roads and you can continue to climb for a more difficult hike (I think it is Wilson Trail Section 6). The reservoir is not but not as remarkable as its neighbor the Shing Mun Reservoir we’ve seen 1 month ago when hiking Tai Mo Shan (see the full review of the hike here: https://www.intheirstyle.com/project/tai-mo-shan-hike-tsuen-wan/).
Next to Eagle’s Nest
As the hike was pretty quick and we have finished before lunchtime, we decided to have a lunch a little bit further. We came back to the bus stop and cross the road to arrive at Eagle’s Nest Road as I remember it and at one point of entrance of another trail and country park (it may be the one including Kowloon reservoir, with this nice hike to do ).
After lunch, we decided to go cycling as we had several hours before being obliged to come back to Hong Kong island. So we took a taxi to Tai Wai (MTR Station). You can read the full review soon! Hope you will enjoy the monkeys as much as we did!
