Peng Chau

Feb 15, 2020

Early December last year, I felt I needed a little bit of “me” time after the busy period of changing job and preparing the end of the year celebration both in HK and in France. I got the perfect opportunity to decline another nice brunch and rather decided to tick one of the smallest islands in HK off of my bucket list: Peng Chau!

I took a 30 min ride ferry boat from Central only with a book in hands. The weather was so perfect: very sunny and not to hot nor humid. I was wearing a summer outfit with a denim jacket but I was glad to have taken it for the trip back which was much cooler once the sun was down.

Peng Chau is located not too far from Cheung Chau, another nice island (see my review here). As being one of the smallest islands of the city, there is no much doing on Peng Chau. So it was perfect for me during this afternoon. I walked along the seafront promenade and had a quick look at the colourful temples in the center. The island is also known for its seafood offering but I didn’t get to eat there.

I followed the indications to do the small hike around the island, and I just crossed 3 peopled during this 1 hour walk. The path is in concrete so it’s very easy – I saw parents pushing their toddlers in stroller there.

On this road, you will cross several small beaches where you can take a dip if the weather permits. I don’t know in which extent those beaches may be crowded during summer time. The end of the walk will get you to more residential areas where you may have the opportunity to see people gardening. I felt a great feeling of quietness there, specially with the sunset providing such a nice light.

The end of the hike will make you arrive in the city center again and you can try restaurants of have a break at one of the few cafes existing. Just be careful of the ferry timing to not be blocked on your way back or having to wait too long.

Take the Ferry from Pier No 6 in Central to Peng Chau with a 30/40 min trip.
