Claire, Effortless-Chic

The romantic Claire is a real Parisian woman lost in translation in Hong Kong for 2 years.  She features an effortless-chic style “so French” and elegant. We love it!

Describe your style:

Classy, feminine and timeless. As a good Parisian, I find many basic clothes in my cupboard: t shirts well cut, carrot pants, all in pretty fluid and light materials. They are perfect for Hong Kong weather. My latest fad is my Chanel vintage bag I wear every day.

Your favourite fashion shop(s) and/or brand(s):

This is so difficult because there are so many. Among the ones I can afford: APC for the essentials – they do not necessarily ride on trends so you can find nice, well-cut pieces all the time there. Theory plays a lot on pretty material – very fluid. I bought there my suit for work and silk shirts.

Unfortunately, it’s hard in Hong Kong to find small Parisian brands and shops, a little retro such as Red or Sezanne. Nethertheless, I found my favourite brands here at Philippe le Bac (for pretty dresses with floral patterns), Excuse my French (many pieces of good taste, some Vichy blouses and Tropezienne sandals, and cool jewels).

Your favourite outfit at the moment:

These days, I like to wear this navy high-waisted carrot pants bought from APC – I can easily imagine myself in, for office with a t-shirt and a tank top or during weekends with Stan Smith or flat shoes. As stated before, I cannot let go of my Chanel bag bought last month in a vintage shop in Japan. It is very light mark in hand, and of course I like the story behind.

Your dream-outfit or fashion accessory?

To get my mum’s Kelly from Hermès. I still remember the exceptional purchase experience we had together in shop. The idea of transmission of this luxury bag which belongs to my mother is also an idea I cherish.

I also can’t wait to get my father’s gift which is a Royal Oak watch from Audemars Piguet. Before, I thought watches were futile accessories and I would have felt discomfort wearing one. But now I can’t live without a watch on my wrist and if I forget it at home I’ll go back fetch it.

Something you will never wear:

I hate crop tops which for me are synonymous with vulgarity and represent the 90s. I also hate necklaces which look like dog collars. It is just bad taste and too vulgar to me. It is also not gratifying for women, it looks like we are attached or on a leash.

Your beauty secret:

To get a good sleep and to get well hydrated every day. In terms of brand, I like Cha Ling, all their products are based on Pu’er tea. I like their light fragrance and textures. Their brand DNA focuses on Zen behaviour and massages treatment and I think products are adapted to HK weather. I use their make-up remover oil. Every night, I also spray a fine mist from La Roche Posay zinc-based, just before sleep. It is very refreshing and calming. Other secret: coconut oil as a make-up remove. Fragrance is delicious and it leaves the skin very soft.

Your favourite restaurant in Hong Kong?

I started to like Chinese food with Ho Lee Fook, the super trendy restaurant which features a real concept. The Chef is awesome and gives local dishes a more fusion and modern twist. Products are well showcased in the plate, as I like it. Another restaurant is Caprice. I’ve been there for the first time when I arrived in Hong Kong with my father. I liked the view, the open kitchen (which is king of bold in a Michelin-starred restaurant). The cuisine is both simple and very well thought and I like this sophistication.

Your favourite destination in Asia and your best souvenir there:

I loved Cambodia, it was my first trip when I arrived in HK, and I travelled alone. I was amazed by the beauty of temples and the culture. I was particularly moved by the sunrise and the kindness of people. I will also always remember my first trip with my boyfriend in Hanoi, Vietnam. It’s teeming but you have a great History and culture to discover. You are well welcomed as a tourist and both the lifestyle and the food are delicious.

Your favourite place in Hong Kong?

The Asia Hong Kong Society. In Hong Kong, I miss space a lot, that’s what I could spend hours reading a book or just watch the amazing view we have there. This place relaxes me a lot, I feel good there. It’s a natural getaway in the city.

In terms of neighbourhood, I love Wan Chai for the whaou effect. It’s very local and charming even if it’s teeming. I also enjoy Kennedy Town which is like a small village away from the center. You can breath from the pier and have a nice walk from Sai Ying Pun. I think I could definitely live there.

Special question: Your mantra?

To quote Saint Laurent “Without elegance of heart there is no elegance”. Fashion and what transpires comes most of all from the inside. First and foremost, style and elegance are a behaviour.
